The end of summer may be approaching, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop gardening! There is a whole new round of planting that’s possible as we head into the fall, and we have a fresh crop of seedlings ready to keep your garden bountiful through the autumn months.
We are hosting a Fall Plant Sale on Friday, August 5 from 8am-6pm and on Saturday, August 6 from 10am-12pm. The sale will be on the Dr. Keiko Miwa Ross Student Farm (click here for directions). Please bring a box with you to shop. Accepted forms of payment include cash or check only.
All of our seedlings have been seeded and raised by our student interns, and we are excited to share them with the community. They will be hardened off and ready for transplant immediately after the sale. Seedlings available include:
- Red and green cabbage
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Kohlrabi
- Kale
- Swiss chard
- Green and yellow zucchini
- Patty pan squash
- Cucumbers
All seedlings are $2.50 each or five for $10.00.
If you aren’t as comfortable or familiar with fall planting, don’t be discouraged! There are many resources to help you maintain a successful garden, including a few below. These resources outline some of the transplants you can grow, as well as some of the direct-seeded crops you can plant. Also, be sure to protect your brassica seedlings (cabbage, kale, broccoli, cauliflower and kohlrabi) from cabbage moths— just a few of those little green worms would be hard on small seedlings.
We hope to see you on Friday or Saturday for our Fall Plant Sale! If you have any questions, please send them to studentfarm@psu.edu.
