Hello, my name is Robert Segeda, and I am working on the farm for the 2024 Fall Semester through a for-credit internship. I am a senior with a degree in Energy Business and Finance with a minor in Sustainability Leadership. I am originally from Carbondale Pennsylvania but now live in Bellefonte with my wife and 2 dogs. I joined the Army a little after high school and served 5 years as a Technical Engineer. It was always a dream of mine to pursue a degree at Penn State.
Growing up I always enjoyed the outdoors and enjoyed sports such as fishing, snowboarding, and hiking. I have always wanted to learn more about the outdoors and where the food actually comes from, so I chose to get hands-on experience on the Student Farm.
I have been working on the Student Farm since the beginning of the semester, back at the end of August. In the past 2 weeks I have been able to harvest, cultivate, plant, package, and store over 10 different kinds of crops. I was also able to build some planter boxes and prepare for some events around the farm.
My experience at the Student Farm has been amazing. I have been able to meet some amazing people, and I look forward to meeting anyone else that may be interested in being a member of the team. I also look forward to the amazing skills and knowledge I will be learning throughout the rest of the semester.
