The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World by Robin Wall Kimmerer uses the serviceberry plant as a metaphor to explore the concept of a “gift economy” in nature, highlighting the interconnectedness and reciprocity present in the natural world. This urges readers to re-evaluate their relationship with resources by learning from the plant’s practice of sharing its bounty with other creatures, instead of focusing on individual accumulation and competition.
