Enjoy fresh, local food and experience live music at the Student Farm’s fourth annual Harvest Festival. On Thursday, September 12 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Student Farm, campus and community members are invited to enjoy the festivities, meet members of the Student Farm club and the Sustainability Institute, and hear about plans for future farm expansions.
Located next to the intersection of Fox Hollow and Big Hollow roads, the Student Farm is a once-acre vegetable farm that was created in spring 2016. The Student Farm’s mission is to educate people on sustainable food systems, cultivate community. and increase access of locally sourced produce on campus and in the community.
The food at this family friendly event will be provided by Campus Catering and chefs from Housing and Food Services. Chefs-in-training from Pennsylvania College of Technology will also be serving food. There will also be student led tours at the event, where attendees will have the chance to taste vegetables growing on the farm and understand how that food is used to feed the nearby community. Planting activities and face-painting will be offered to families with children.
The event will occur rain or shine. Attendees are advised to wear close-toed shoes and bring blankets and lawn chairs to sit in the grass. Sorry, furry friends are not allowed at this event.
Students and the campus community may get a ride to the farm via a blue bus. Departures to the Student Farm will be at 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. from the Ag Administration Building (pullout area near Berkey Creamery). The bus will return guests to campus at 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. On-campus guests are welcome to ride bikes to the farm together. The bike pool will meet at the seating area next to Berkey Creamery to depart at 5:10 p.m. Bikers should use Big Hollow Road to get to the farm and bring flashlights for the trip home at night.
